Genealogical Resources in California

California has a wealth of resources for the genealogist. This is only a partial list of what is available to get you started: Things change. We suggest you check directly with each library for hours, location, the contents of their collection and any other help they may be able to provide you.

Family History Centers are operated by the Mormon Church (Church of Latter Day Saints). They are open to anyone free of charge. They are particularly strong on census and other microfilmed vital records from just about anywhere on earth. Each center has computerized indexes for searching individuals, catalog entries, and other information. You can search on Google.com for the nearest location.

Local Genealogical and/or Historical Societies.
